If You Have a Work Status Change
Your contributions to the Spending Accounts end if your work status changes and you are then scheduled to work fewer than 20 hours per week. In this case, you may continue to claim reimbursements from your account balances for any eligible expenses that were incurred before the date of your work status change.
For the Health Care Spending Account (but not for the Dependent Care or Transportation Spending Accounts), you may be able to continue to make contributions on an after-tax basis under COBRA if you have not used your entire account balance prior to the date your status changed. For more details on COBRA continuation for the Health Care Spending Account, see the Health Care Participation section. You will have until the claim filing deadline (March 31) in the year following your work status change to submit claims for any eligible expenses incurred up to the date of your work status change or the end of COBRA coverage. If your work status changes and you are then scheduled to work more than 20 hours per week, please see "How to Enroll" for information on when you can newly enroll to participate.
